While London’s Chris Lake uses a decidedly dark palette for huge electronic sound, he deftly moves between a staggering array of styles and he makes it all look so easy. Whether it’s an aggressive bass sound, a carefree disco groove, an addictive pop hook, or a trance interlude, Lake pulls it off with gusto. A childhood multi-instrumentalist, he’s often inclined to incorporate electric guitar riffs and textures into his massive compositions to great effect. He’s been putting out releases since 2002 with Marcos Lys, Steve Aoki and Sébastien Léger as regular collaborators – though he’s also worked tracks with Tocadisco, Nightriders, Steve Aoki and Deadmau5, with whom he shared a residency at Cream Ibiza.
For his Origins Tour, Chris Lake is keying in on house music, and picking venues that will compliment this sonic direction. Tomorrow, February 6, he’ll be throwing down on Cielo’s famous Funktion-One sound system with Sevag, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty insane party.
