No one has tapped into the beating heart of Chicago music quite like Wayne Williams. He learned the art of spinning records by the seat of his pants, filling in for his sister’s boyfriend when he spun house parties. After years spent in the clubs along with a some desk work at a house label, he landed an A&R position at Jive Records, where he played an immense role in the careers of artists including Mystikal, R. Kelly, Britney Spears, the Fresh Prince and Jazzy Smith, often providing official remixes. Thus, he has truly earned his title “Ambassador Of House”; his career has successfully bridged soulful Chicago House and melodic European dance with burgeoning movements in hip-hop, R&B and pop.
Tonight (2/18) he commands the decks alongside a kindred spirit and Motown veteran Kevin Hedge of the Blaze collective for the RootsNYC residency. Together, they will remind us that we belong to the rhythm.
