A weekly institution that has permanently changed the sound and vibration of New York City dance music, Deep Space is using its 12th Anniversary to create a unique sonic experience with some forward-thinking guests. Alongside resident and local folk hero François K, the party is bringing in Easy Star Sound System, the new in-house party-rocking crew for Easy Star Records.
Producer and multi-instrumentalist Michael Goldwasser founded Easy Star Records in 1996 as a response to the computerized sound of Jamaican reggae and the rampant Marley cloning going on stateside. The label manifested Goldwasser’s vision in the form of Easy Star All-Stars, a live collective specializing in reggae versions of classic albums like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead’s OK Computer, and The Beatles’s Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Original records like Until That Day and First Light remain cult classics for fans of dub, roots, and all manners of Caribbean sound.
Easy Star Sound System an expansion of Godlwasser’s vision into the DJ format, and he’s studding the NYC debut with MC Metric Man plus appearances from Ranking Joe and Lady Ann. François K will of course be bringing in some of his own prime selections, making for an unforgettable installment of the city’s best Monday.
