NYC’s infamous SOUP (Support Our Underground Properly) collective was founded in the mid-90s by Chris Love, who hoped to give discerning clubgoers access to the best of the underground techno and house scene. Some of the earliest parties featured pioneers like Juan Atkins, Baby Hector Romero and Andy Smith, who paved the way for a decade of top-notch house and techno DJs to bring the heat to the dance floor. Resident DJs are Chris Love and AB Logic, together Love & Logic, who have consistently proven themselves adept at taking the crowd on a musical journey. Along the years, SOUP claimed more residents including Joe Pompeo, Chris Patrick and Jenia Le, and eventually found a home at Cielo, where they continue to host monthly parties alongside renowned guests.
This month’s installment features house veteran Junior Sanchez, a grown prodigy from New Jersey, who’s become one of the most sought-after names in house music with a long, prolific career in both the creative and corporate sides of the industry. He’s got some cult-favorite originals as well as remixes/collaborations with everyone from Harry Romero to Katy Perry which have found success the world over. He is also the founder and proprietor of Brobot, an imprint on SIZE Records.
House veteran Junior Sanchez will be celebrating his birthday at Cielo this Friday with the help of Love & Logic (of SOUP NYC), Mike Palladino & Alec Springstead and Monikkr. Sanchez told us, “Expect a feast for the ears. The best underground house/dance music you’ve heard in ages.” He then described Cielo as “the only place this could happen and be appreciated!” Here’s looking at you, Junior!
