Your typical DJ set lasts only a few hours, but to master the craft of mixing and selection takes years of hard-fought experience. London’s Bassam Ibellini has been cutting up records in the trenches since his youth, and we, the lucky party people, get to reap the benefits. The prestige he earned working turntables from his teenage years landed him a residency at Cuckoo Club where he worked with names like Damian Lazarus, Seth Troxler and Jamie Jones, all while establishing the famous warehouse party series Peculiar.
As a producer, Ibellini’s style is based around driving beats and lush synths, as demonstrated on his addictive Wide Soul EP which came out last year on Rebellion. But a major tenet to his sound is a love for golden-era hip-hop, which he explores on the brand new original track “That’s Right”, out on Tuskegee’s The Come Up compilation.
That passion for the 90s glory days is the ethos of Kick It Fresh, an fly Thursday night party by Now Serving that features Bas Ibellini alongside Nathan Kersaint and Leewae. Break out the cross colors, Kangols and Africa medallions – we’re wilding for the night!
