Onionz and Tommy D Funk Poised to Rock Forward Disco

Son of the famed latin jazz bassist Victor Venagas, New York City’s own Andrew Venagas aka DJ Onionz was destined for musical greatness. As a young child he took to the drums, excelling to the point of earning a scholarship to Manhattan’s Performing Arts School, before taking up the turntables when he was 12. In the 80s he started working the club circuit while still a teenager, playing hip-hop gigs in Queens before taking to house and disco lover, playing legendary rooms like The Roxy and Limelight. The mid-90s saw his growth into a respected producer as well as the founder of Electrik Soul Records, established in 1994. His originals “Need Ya” and “Tatti’s Groove” on Carl Cox’s Intec imprint are highly sought out, as are his remixes for a number of pop and electronic artists, everyone from Carl Cox to Lee Burridge to Mariah Carey.

Today, Onionz released the brand new single “Learn Me” on Beatport via Spain’s Factomania label.

Onionz will be joined at Forward Disco by Tommy D Funk, who joined dance music scene in the early 90s, playing Manchester’s local pubs before the tastemakers caught wind and booked him a weekly residency at the legendary Hacienda, where he proliferated the sounds of house and techno alongside the likes of Roger Sanchez, Tony Humphries, Derrick May and CJ Mackintosh. From the UK, he moved to Seoul where he absorbed some Eastern vibes, and then headed to NYC where he’s resided since, rocking rooms like Centro-Fly, Leopard Lounge and Sin Sin.

Onionz and Funk are two of the DJs responsible for the modern house music renaissance. We’re eternally grateful that Forward Disco brought us this major night! Residents Sean Cormac and Chili Davis warm up; it all goes down Saturday, October 17th!
