New Year’s Eve 2015 at the Meatpacking District’s Cielo is set to go down as one of those historic nights of sonic bliss. Sleepy & Boo, a mammoth force in both the studio and the nightclub, will be marshalling a night of the world’s most captivating electronic music for the fourth annual New Year’s Eve Masquerade. Come with a disguise, leave with enlightenment.
The joinder of Begoña (“Boo”) and Mike (“Sleepy”) began with a chance encounter among the Halcyon record store stacks and blossomed into a powerful creative partnership. The two became a married couple, all the while solidifying their grip on NYC’s club culture; they created a monthly party known as Basic NYC, an instant hit with the techno crowd that eventually evolved into the monthly ILLUSION series at Cielo. Their gig history features some milestone sets including Electric Zoo, Kaskade’s Redux tour and Electric Daisy Carnival.
2015 marked a step, or leap rather, for Sleepy & Boo into the realm of producing original tracks. They put out six EPs throughout the year on five different labels based in New York, Romania, Italy and the UK. The sound they’ve cultivated features techno textures melded with house grooves, colored by dark and evocative melodies. Their most recent release The Palisades EP came out December 7th via Savoir Faire Musique.
The choice to throw a masked New Year’s celebration fits Sleepy & Boo’s unique aesthetic. “It’s all about adding a bit of mystery and fun to the night,” says the duo. “After all, New Year’s is about what’s coming up in the new year, which can be an unknown, a blank slate for many. And masquerades inspire a bit of decadence and glamour, which are essential elements of New Year’s Eve.”
Sleepy & Boo’s ILLUSION celebrated its first year at Cielo in October, and the immense success of that crowded night was a testament to Sleepy & Boo’s endearment to the club’s discerning crowd. “We love being at Cielo on New Year’s Eve because it feels like we’re celebrating at home, surrounded by friends and family,” they continue. “Everything combines to create the perfect atmosphere – especially that world famous Funktion One sound system. Sometimes New Year’s in New York can get a bit hectic but being at Cielo is a great party for people who want to really let loose and have a blast in a comfortable, music-focused environment.”
Opening this night will be New York’s Gilles Wasserman, whose melodic and ethereal deep house will be the perfect starting point for this musical journey from one year to the next. Handling the closing set is SR Serge, the man behind the famed Sullivan Room, and one-half of the production duo Grass Is Greener. His bass-heavy deep house provides the perfect closing chapter to the New Year’s Eve festivities at Cielo.
Advance tickets are still available for this momentous night but are likely to sell out before the event. VIP table reservations (contact firstname.lastname@example.org) are filling up as we speak. Make moves, NYC!
